It can be easy to get caught up in the latest SEO trends– mobile first, optimizing for featured snippets and using structured data. This article has some of the most important SEO basics that your business can apply to help your site rank higher in Google search results.
SEO works best when each page has a clear purpose: answering a customer’s question, explaining a service or helping someone take the next step. Use these five strategies to decide what to improve first.
1. Match each page to a customer need
Start with questions your customers actually ask. Separate people researching a topic from people comparing suppliers or preparing to enquire.
For example, “what makes a good landing page?” calls for an explanatory article. “Website design agency Hong Kong” calls for a service page that explains your capabilities, process and relevant work.
Assign a primary purpose to each important page. Use clear titles and headings that describe its content.
2. Make your content useful for a decision
Review older articles for outdated examples, unsupported claims and missing answers. Improve the information rather than simply making the article longer.
Add a practical checklist, a clearly labelled example or an explanation of trade-offs. Where you discuss your own work, include only details and results you can substantiate. Readers should leave knowing what to do next.
3. Connect related pages with useful links
Link from relevant service pages to supporting articles, and from those articles to an appropriate next step. Use descriptive linked text so readers know where a link leads.
Avoid relying entirely on search boxes or Load More buttons to expose important content. Give priority articles an ordinary link from another relevant page.

4. Improve the page visitors arrive on
Check whether the page answers the promise made by its search listing. Make the main message, supporting evidence and next action easy to find on mobile.
A high exit or bounce rate needs context: a visitor may have found the answer, encountered a problem or decided the offer was unsuitable. Investigate the journey before choosing a fix.

5. Measure enquiries alongside search performance
Use Google Search Console to review impressions, clicks, click-through rate and average position. Compare the same pages and queries across comparable periods, allowing for seasonality.
Alongside search data, measure meaningful actions such as completed enquiries where analytics is configured. Keep a change log so you can relate later observations to specific updates without assuming that every fluctuation was caused by your changes.
Start with a manageable group of commercially relevant pages. Fix access problems, improve their content and links, then review the results.
